Application Procedure

Choose a prospective “home” graduate unit or graduate degree program; consult our list of collaborating programs. Apply directly to the appropriate graduate degree program and comply with their application procedures. Students will only be accepted into CWGS upon confirmation of their acceptance into the collaborating graduate program.

Admissions Procedures are as follows:

  1. At the applicant’s request, collaborating units send CWGS transcripts and a copy of  their offer of admission. This request may be made either in a letter or by e-mail.
  2. The applicant sends directly to CWGS a two-page statement of intent focusing on work in women and gender studies. You may ask your home graduate unit to forward the statement of intent submitted to that program, if it describes your research as it relates to Women and Gender Studies, or you may submit a modified statement.
  3. The applicant asks two referees to send letters of reference, which comment specifically on their preparation for Women and Gender Studies. Please note that because of privacy concerns, the home department may not send copies of letters submitted to them. However, you may simply ask the same referees to submit another copy of the letter submitted to the home unit, so long as that letter comments on your work in Women and Gender Studies.

After the application file is complete, the Graduate Coordinator and one other faculty member review each file. Accepted students are sent a letter outlining the program requirements; a copy of this letter is also sent to the home unit.
