Michelle Murphy is a historian who researches and theorizes about the politics of technoscience, sexed and raced life, environment and economics in the recent past, particularly in cold war and postcolonial conjunctures associated with the United States. Her work follows from of the interdisciplinary field of feminist technoscience studies and is shaped by problematics that have emerge from transnational feminist studies, postcolonial studies, and critical theory. She is co-organizer of Technoscience Salon and co-coordinator of the Technoscience Research Unit. She is also organizer of the History and Theory Workgroup. From 1996-2006 she was editor of the RaceSci Website on the History of Race in Science, Medicine and Technology. She supervises graduate students interested in technoscience and new media; reproductive politics and biopolitics; environmental studies and political ecology; critical race studies; critical development studies; affect and living-being; political economy and governmentality; and feminist and queer theory.
